What is so special about language? A political philosophy approach.

Language is one among many forms of human diversity, such as race, ethnicity, class, gender and sexuality. Should language be considered as equal in its status and importance to these forms of human diversity, or is it somehow distinct from them in some way? Does the interdependent function of language as both identitarian and communicative mechanism, or its mutability, imply that language should be viewed as categorically different to e.g. race, class and sexuality? If so, what are the implications of its uniqueness for the political ethics of the linguistically-good life and the linguistically-good society?
