EngSci and GirlSci cover most of the same projects. However, GirlSci offers an all-girl environment and is taught by a female instructor.

EngTech and MakerGirls (a girls-only camps) focus on hardware and software projects, while EngSci and GirlSci offer a mixture of science- and technology-based projects.

All camp groups are divided by age. There will be age-appropriate activities for younger participants and more challenging activities for older participants. No matter their age, campers at Adventures will participate in a variety of engaging, educational and fun activities.

Due to security reasons and based on past experience, we now require that all our volunteers complete grade 9 in order to be eligible for volunteering with Adventures in Engineering and Science. In rare cases when volunteer registrations are low, we may accept volunteers who have just completed grade 8.

A parent must send an email to adventures@uottawa.ca to inquire about volunteer availability for grade 8 students before registering their child. All volunteers may be requested to provide proof of grade level.

The numbers 1 through 4 simply represent the number of different weeks of camp. For example, there are four different weeks of EngSci. The format and schedule are the same each week, but the projects are different. It is therefore possible for a camper to take part in 4 consecutive weeks of EngSci without repeating the same projects. The weeks are independent from one another and are non-cumulative. It is therefore possible for your child to attend week 4 before week 2 without a problem.

The campers get breaks throughout the day to go outside and play. We have a large quantity of outdoor equipment for them to use. In addition, campers approximately aged 8 and above will have the option to go swimming at the university pool once a week (alternate activities will be offered for those who prefer not to swim). During this time, campers who are between 5 and 7 years old will get to play a variety of games outside. Campers will also be walking between the different laboratories at the university, and every Friday, we will be playing team-building games outside.

There are multiple groups within each program, so please indicate in the comments section of your registration if you would like your child to be placed with a friend or family member. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee any groupings (especially if the children's languages, grades or camps are different). However, we will do our best to accommodate your request. No group changes will be made after 12 p.m. on the first day of camp.

Booking a workshop is simple:

First, decide if you want a workshop at your school or at the uOttawa campus. If you want our team to go to your school, make sure to book at least 2 workshops (i.e. with other teachers). You can always come to campus with your class for one or more workshops.
Once you have decided on the location of the workshop(s), explore the workshop options and choose the one(s) that will best suit your students’ interests and your curriculum.
Select two potential workshop dates. Registrations for workshops are done on a first-come, first-served basis. Although we would like to accommodate as many requests as possible, our resources are limited.
On the workshop page, click on Register Now , fill out all required information and submit your application. This step must be completed on a computer (phones and tablets will not work). Submit your request.
You will receive an email from Adventures 1-3 business days following the receipt of your application. Occasionally, it can take up to 5 business days for us to contact you. If you do not hear back from Adventures within a week, please send us an email at: adventures@uottawa.ca.
Once your registration has been processed, we will send you an email with a tentative schedule. You must review it thoroughly then reply by email to either confirm your registration or make changes.
Once we receive your email confirming the tentative schedule, we will send you a final confirmation. If your workshops are on campus, we will provide you with all necessary information (where to go, what to bring, etc.).

The maximum number of participants per workshop is 35. However, based on feedback from our instructors and teachers, workshops work best with groups of 15-25 students. If you have a group of more than 35 students, the best option is to split the group into two as there won’t be enough material for every student. In this case, the workshop will have greater value and will be more enjoyable for everyone!

When you will receive your email confirmation, you will receive a campus map indicating where to meet our instructors. You will also receive a waiver form that must be signed by the parents of all participants. Please note, students without a signed waiver form will NOT be authorized to participate in the workshop(s).

As of April 24 2016, if you have arranged transportation with OC Transpo, you will need to take bus #95, and get off at the King Edward/Templeton stop. This bus stop is located in front of 770 King Edward. If you have arranged a school bus, the drop-off location (loading dock) is 770 King Edward Ave., a one-minute walk from the SITE building (800 King Edward Ave.). The workshop instructor will be waiting for your group 15 minutes before the start of the workshop at the SITE main entrance on the ground floor. Yes. In order for the uOttawa Maker Mobile to be able to sustain its programs (including workshops at schools), we rely on sponsorship from a number of partners. Therefore, we must provide accurate statistics, including the number of students participating in each workshop.
