Do you feel strongly about an issue where our profession should take a stand? Would you like to be part of the solution? The External Liaison Committee has previously developed position papers on important issues. The recommendations or positions in these documents became official CIPS positions after they are approved by the National Board.
External Liaison recognizes that not every CIPS position need be backed by a comprehensive position paper. Indeed many issues can be dealt with effectively in a one or two page briefing note. It might take the form of an issue statement, background, options and advantages/disadvantages, and the recommended position.
Briefing notes can also be used to advise National of a recommended response to an emerging national issue. In this case, the briefing note should take the form of a title, issue statement, background, and suggested response.
Note that recommended positions or responses are not official positions until each has been approved by the National Board. If you would like to participate in developing recommended positions or responses to national issues, please send an e-mail to the Co-Chair of the External Liaison Committee, John Boufford, I.S.P. at boufford@cips.ca.
