  OTTAWA, December 8, 2015  —  Professor Andrew Pelling, cross-appointed to the Department of Biology and the Department of Physics, has been selected as a TED Fellow, making him one of two Canadians to join a class of 21 change-makers from around the world in February 2016 who will share ideas worth spreading from the TED stage in Vancouver.

• Scientists discover new gene linked to high blood pressure

  OTTAWA, November 30, 2015 -- A team of molecular cardiologists at the University of Ottawa has linked a gene, which had never been suspected of playing a role in blood pressure regulation, with human hypertension. The discovery, which was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications, may lead to new targets that would improve treatments for patients with high blood pressure.

• Law, technology and social sciences researchers receive multimillion dollar Partnership Grants

  OTTAWA, September 14, 2015  —  Two teams of researchers from the Centre for Law, Technology and Society have been awarded prestigious multimillion dollar Partnership Grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities ResearchCouncil (SSHRC) for their research projects, which explore youth experiences online and inherent tensions between intellectual property systems and access to knowledge in Africa, respectively.

• Rapid decline in bumblebee species caused by climate change, study finds

  OTTAWA, July 9, 2015 – In the most comprehensive analysis of the impact of climate change on critical pollinators, researchers have found that rapid declines in bumblebee species across North America and Europe are strongly linked to climate change. The study was published in Science.
