Tuition Fees and Scholarships

Tuition and other mandatory fees are calculated based on the program of studies and on the number of courses taken.

New: Differential tuition fee exemption

The differential tuition fee exemption reduces tuition fees for new international students to those paid by Canadian citizens and permanent residents as of the 2014-2015 school year (May 2014).

Undergraduate programs - Bachelor's

Graduate programs - Master's and PhD

Applicable to international students who choose to study mostly in French and who:

  • are admitted in a program offered in French, and
  • are registered as a full time student and take a minimum of 9 credits (3 courses) taught in French per semester.

  • received a secondary or post-secondary diploma in French (minimum 2 years)
  • for programs of study that offer compulsory courses in both official languages (English and French), register to the courses that are compulsory for the French program;

* Based on 2013-2014 costs. Please note that the graduate student academic year is 12 months, or three full sessions.
** The cost of the U-Pass is included in the incidental fees of all full-time students. This pass provides you with universal access to Ottawa's public transportation system.
a This is an estimated budget to help you plan your expenses. Amounts will vary according to your particular situation (your program of study, eating in restaurants, living on campus and other factors.)
b Tuitin fees for common law are approximately $19,000 per session.
c  At the master’s and PhD levels, the majority of programs require registration for three consecutive sessions. Tuition fees and incidental fees for the MBA are approximately $37,000 and $27,000 for the MHA.
d This is the cost for the compulsory period of 12 months for one person.

Undergraduate students

Working on campus

International students are eligible to work on campus without a work visa through the Work-Study Program. Students may work between 10-15 hours per week and generally earn from $1500 to $2500 per semester. On-campus job search is available through the Work-Study Navigator in the My Finances section of uoZone.

Graduate students

At the University of Ottawa, each faculty is allocated a budget for international students. Each faculty holds their own competition with their own criteria; scholarships are awarded in accordance with the faculty’s priorities until the funds are depleted. An admission average of 8.0 / 10 is required.

Obtaining the Differential tuition fee exemption

Undergraduate programs - Bachelor's

Graduate programs - Master's and PhD

Applicable to international students who choose to study mostly in French and who:

  • are admitted in a program offered in French, and
  • are registered as a full time student and take a minimum of 9 credits (3 courses) taught in French per semester.

      • Orthophonie (M.Sc.S.)
      • Physiothérapie (M.Sc.S.)
      • Service social (M.S.S.

Note: The differential tuition fee exemption can be combined with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies’ international partial scholarship

Retaining the Differential tuition fee exemption

Undergraduate programs - Bachelor's

Graduate programs - Master's and PhD

In order to retain the Differential tuition fee exemption for the duration of his or her degree, the student must:

  • be registered full-time in all semesters (except for the spring/summer semesters, where part-time studies are permitted),
  • be registered to a minimum of 3 courses taught in French per semester (9 credits), and
  • maintain a minimum CGPA of 4.5 after each semester

In order to retain the Differential tuition fee exemption for the maximum duration of his or her degree, the student must:

  • be registered full-time in all semesters
  • for programs of study that offer mandatory courses in both official languages (French and English), register to all mandatory courses in French

 

Please note that failure to adhere to these conditions will result in the loss of the Differential tuition fee exemption for the remainder of the program of studies.
