Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section
Roger Tassé Fund for Legal Pluralism and Shared Values
Roger Tassé had a remarkable career in the federal public service, as, among other things, the first-ever Francophone and civil lawyer to hold the position of deputy minister of justice. He holds a graduate degree in law from the University of Ottawa and received the Ordre du mérite from the Civil Law Section. Mr. Tassé established this fund to promote research in the areas of legal pluralism and common values, which are at the heart of several faculty members' research projects in the Civil Law Section (issues surrounding freedom of religion and reasonable accommodation or Aboriginal rights, for instance). The Section wants to continue gathering donations for this fund so that eventually a professorship can be created.
Clinique de droit notarial
On January 31, 2006, the Civil Law Section of the Faculty of Law opened the Clinique de droit notarial de l'Université d'Ottawa. Work at the clinic, part of the applied learning offered to civil law students as they pursue their LL.L degree, counts as a credit course where students apply their practical knowledge of the law while serving fellow citizens and participating in community life. Because of its socially oriented mission, the clinic provides priority service to the economically disadvantaged, to community groups and to students. However, its services are available to the general public as well, regardless of status or income.
Fauteux Hall expansion
The University has experienced unprecedented growth of late, which means we need to keep updating and improving our buildings and facilities to provide our students with the best possible setting in which to learn. We therefore plan to focus on financial support and donations that pave the way for new classrooms, a bigger law library and, overall, an even more stimulating and enriching environment in the Faculty.
Gérald A. Beaudoin Foundation
This fund was established in 2005 by the Honourable Gérald A. Beaudoin, professor emeritus and former dean of the Civil Law Section, three years before his death. The objective of this fund is to support the legal education and research mission of the Civil Law Section of the Faculty of Law.
Mr. Beaudoin was awarded the Légion d'honneur by the French government at a ceremony at the French Embassy in Ottawa on November 3, 2005, a tribute to his remarkable contributions to the Francophonie. In 1973, he became vice-president for Canada of the Institut international de droit d'expression française. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1988 and sat in the upper house until April 2004. He also authored many books and wrote or co-wrote a range of essays on the Canadian constitution, on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and on human rights in Canada and abroad. The Canadian Bar Association awarded him the Walter S. Tarnopolsky Human Rights Award in 2002.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fund
Developing entrepreneurial skills
We want to ensure our students come away with the specialized expertise required to succeed in today's market. And when it comes to the industries offering innovative products and services — be it research and development, manufacturing, commercialization or marketing — our students will be working in an increasingly competitive world. Never before has it been so crucial for our engineers and computer scientists to possess the entrepreneurial skills needed to prosper in the business and technology sectors. That's why we've created the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Endowment Fund, to help our students acquire and hone these important technical and non-technical skills, most notably through annual competitions in entrepreneurship and innovation. The fund also allows us to present a speaker series focussing on timely topics. So, when you make a gift to the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fund, you're helping shape our next generation of exceptional and entrepreneurial engineers and computer scientists. More information.
Student Initiatives Fund
Enhancing the student experience
To enhance our educational experience, we want our students to challenge themselves through innovative activities. The Student Initiatives Fund provides ongoing funding for such engaging opportunities. For instance, it allows students to enter — and excel in — pre-professional competitions and activities at the local, national and international levels. The fund also supports our unique Brunsfield Group Engineering Student Projects and Entrepreneurship Centre. In this facility, created with funding from a supportive alumnus, student teams come together to design, build and test innovative prototypes. Finally, the fund gives students a chance to attend conferences and to hear inspiring talks by renowned guest speakers and researchers. So, when you direct your gift to the Student Initiatives Fund, you're enriching the university experience by providing opportunities for students to excel in their fields and, ultimately, to enter the workforce as qualified professionals who will help build better communities.
