Discover why it starts here for Ariane Lafond
Unsure of whether she wanted to pursue her postsecondary studies in English or French, Ariane Lafond opted not to compromise and to enjoy the best of both linguistic worlds by choosing the University of Ottawa.“I loved the idea of being able to take classes in both official languages,” says the fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student, specializing in marketing. “As soon as I visited the campus, my mind was made up—you really get the feeling of being in a tight-knit community that’s nestled in the heart of one of the most dynamic cities in Canada.”
Firmly entrenched in student life on campus through her involvement with the Jeux du commerce, and now, as president of the Telfer Marketing Association, Lafond credits the abundance of University support resources for making sure she got off on the right foot when she first arrived at uOttawa.
“Services like the Academic Writing Help Centre and the Help Centre in Mathematics and Statistics allowed me to get the help I needed to adjust to the pace of university studies.”
Lafond is now ensuring that new students receive the same level of support she enjoyed by becoming a mentor with the Telfer School of Management for the 2012-13 academic year.
