In addition to the resources available through this website, other initiatives are underway across the Ontario university sector that will help you to make learning environments more accessible and inclusive. They are listed below.

In this Section

  • Innovative Designs for Accessibility (IDeA) Student Competition – an undergraduate competition that encourages Ontario’s students to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions to barriers to accessibility. This competition is run by the Council of Ontario Universities.
  • Accessible Content e-Portal (ACE) – a project aimed at enhancing the ability of university libraries in Ontario to provide barrier-free access to textual resources (books, documents, journals) for students and faculty with various kinds of reading disabilities. This project is run by the Ontario Council of University Librarians (OCUL).
  • Alternative Education Resources Ontario (AERO) – a project created to provide alternate format text to students with perceptual disabilities who attend publicly assisted educational institutions in Ontario. This project is run by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
  • Mental Health 2.0 – a competition that encourages students at Ontario’s publicly assisted universities to develop ideas about using social media to enhance awareness of mental health challenges and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
