Accessibility Training for Employees

Dear colleagues,

I'm writing to seek your cooperation in helping the Faculty of Medicine to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA).

As a public sector institution, the University has had to comply with this legislation since 2010.

The purpose of this Act is to develop and implement standards for services (including teaching), facilities, employment, accommodation and buildings relating to accessibility for persons with disabilities.

What does this mean?

  • All faculty and staff within the University must undertake accessibility training.
  • Accessibility training can be carried out on-line, via an interactive PowerPoint presentation, which can be accessed here: http://www.hr.uottawa.ca/accessibility/
  • Training participation is being monitored as a means of measuring our performance on this important legislation and thus should be completed by all university staff members at their earliest convenience.

It is critical that we comply with this very important legislation, and I appreciate your assistance in this matter.
