Important Message – update on bargaining with APUO

The University has learned of the faculty association’s intention to hold a strike vote on July 31, 2013. We have also just discovered that the Association posted on its website its proposed Strike or Lockout Protocol. It is important to note that the University has not yet discussed with the APUO the terms set out in this proposal.

It is also important that no-one is misled. In the event of a labour disruption the norm is that striking employees are not paid. Protocols are sometimes negotiated by employer and union representatives to continue benefit coverage in the event of a labour disruption. No such protocol has been discussed or agreed upon to date between the University and APUO.

The University’s main objective has always been and remains the same: to conclude an agreement with its faculty through negotiations in good faith. We also remain confident that such an agreement can be negotiated.
