From June 23 to 28, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in collaboration with the Canadian Mathematical Society, held its annual summer camp in mathematics. Some of the best grade 10 students from Ontario and Secondary IV students from Québec spent a fun week playing mathematical games and learning mathematics in a friendly, non competitive environment. The M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in mathematics and statistics are administrated by the which includes professors from the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. This cooperation has many advantages for the students enrolled at both universities since it increases the number of available courses and seminars, and gives opportunities for social as well as academic interactions between the students of both universities.

The Department offers a research intensive environment supported by its affiliation to two of the most prestigious mathematical research institutes in Canada; The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences and the Centre de Recherche Mathématique (CRM) de l'Université de Montréal. The research inside the Department covers a wide range of area with strong .

Since many governmental and private research centers, and many governmental agencies, including Statistics Canada, are located in the National Capital Region, there are excellent job opportunities for students graduating from our programs and also rewarding work term placements for those in our cooperative programs.
