Public Governance

Overview

In today’s institutionally complex world, the task of planning, organizing, and delivering public services is more challenging than ever. The intersection between government, private, and non-profit sections is expanding, and boundaries are blurring. Power, resources, and information are widely distributed in these spheres. The study of public governance seeks to orchestrate this area of intersection, tap into its synergy, make the best possible use of precious resources, and apply best management practices for delivering public services.

What’s distinctive about this program is that it combines the academic, research-based expertise of the Faculty of Social Sciences’ Centre on Governance and the practical, real-world expertise of the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Continuing Education. The program aims to provide public organizations with robust and practical tools to develop and manage public services in the best possible way. It addresses training and capacity building for public sector organizations in Canada, but it also offers support for implementing public sector modernization initiatives and governance reforms in developing countries.
