CO-OP internships add to student experience

Allyshia Sewdat, a third-year computer science student in the Faculty of Engineering, is undertaking her second CO-OP internship at Research in Motion (RIM), where she is programming social media applications for the BlackBerry.

Born and raised in Toronto, Allyshia first was attracted in high school to computer programming, a line of work which seemed to her to be promising, full of career opportunities that allows young graduates to work on innovative projects in a growing sector.

After completing first year and examining the pros and cons of the CO-OP program, Allyshia was clearly convinced by the advantages of acquiring professional knowledge and skills through internships within prestigious corporations such as RIM. [External site.]

Working at RIM on a product used by millions of people daily is motivating for Allyshia. “The work flow is quick in this very professional and competitive environment. I have learned to manage my schedule, prioritize my tasks, become conscientious, and know when to ask for help. I have developed a good working relationship with developer Chris Coughtrey, who supervises me.”
