Harrison Lowe: Turning a love of sport into a fulfilling career

Harrison Lowe is a second-year student at the Faculty of Health Science, where he is bringing his love of sport to an academic level by studying human kinetics.

A graduate of St. Peter Catholic High School in Ottawa, he chose the University of Ottawa because of its human kinetics program as well as its location in the heart of Ottawa and close to transit.

Harrison is enjoying his time at uOttawa. Classes make learning fun and exciting, with exercises involving running up and down staircases calculating the power and force generated as well as throwing footballs to measure ball velocity and acceleration. His job as a student ambassador has also been an enriching experience that has helped improve his public speaking and general conversation skills.

"I love to play sports. I play competitive rugby and recreational hockey. In fact, name a sport and I'm sure I've played it. I'm excited that I am getting to turn what I love into a career."

For now, Harrison is still exploring where his interest in biomechanics and the physics behind human movement will bring him and is considering fields like physiotherapy, education and human kinetics research.
