Gee-Gees football

It was a lot of fun and a great way to meet people

Cheer on your Gee-Gees this Saturday, November 13!

The Gee-Gees football won their game against Laurier last Saturday and will be hosting the Yates Cup (OUA championship game) this Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m. at Frank Clair Stadium. If they win this weekend, the Gee-Gees will travel to Quebec City on Saturday, November 20 for the Uteck Bowl against either Sherbrooke or Laval University. The winner of that game moves onto the national championship: the Vanier Cup.

Original reputation story from October 2010

Sitting atop the OUA with a perfect 4-0 record, and ranked second in the country, the Gee-Gees football team has given the University community lots to cheer about so far this year.

The crowds at both home games have been tremendous. First-year nursing student Britney Allard describes the atmosphere as "amazing" and says she will definitely be going to the next game. "And I've convinced all my friends to come with me!"

"It was a lot of fun and a great way to meet people," admits first-year biology student Matt Gerolani. Similarly, Andrea McDonald, also in first-year biology, is quick to add that "it's a super way to break out of your shell and have some fun."

More than 6,000 fans, including a mass of 3,000 uOttawa students, were kept on the edge of their seats during the Gee-Gees' thrilling home opener against the Western Mustangs on September 6, which featured a nail-biting finish: With only 29 seconds remaining on the clock, fourth-year quarterback Brad Sinopoli connected with fourth-year receiver Steven Hughes for the game-winning touchdown. The home crowd at Frank Clair Stadium erupted into an absolute frenzy at the improbable come-from-behind victory over the mighty Mustangs.

The Gee-Gees pulled off another come-from-behind victory against the McMaster Marauders on Sept. 18 to remain unbeaten and claim top spot in the OUA standings in front of a crowd of over 2,400 people.

It's clear from the season so far that supporting varsity sports is a unique opportunity to unite with fellow students and build a sense of belonging on campus while collectively cheering your team to victory!
