Course registration Toolbox

On this page, you will find all the necessary tools you will need to help you register for your courses.

Whether they are tools to help you choose the right courses and when to take them (recommended course sequence) or tools to help you create the best course timetable for you, we have you covered. These tools are divided into two categories: tools that are available on our website and tools that are available through uoZone, our secure uOttawa student portal.

Tools available on our website

Undergraduate studies calendars

Faculty undergraduate calendars provide information on all programs offered at the University of Ottawa as well as all the course descriptions. This information helps you select your courses.

Timetable template

Use this timetable template to help you build your course schedule for the Fall and Winter sessions. It is already divided according to the University of Ottawa’s course schedule.

Make-up courses in mathematics and science

Make-up courses in mathematics and science are courses that are equivalent to high school prerequisite courses. They are offered to students who don’t have a particular prerequisite for admission.

Course timetable

The online course timetable is a great tool to help you plan which courses to take and create your timetable. This database allows you to search all the courses offered at the University. It provides course descriptions, course sections, course locations and times and, starting one month prior to when classes begin, the name of the professor teaching the course.

Course sequences

The course sequence tool allows you to see which courses you should take for your particular program and when you should take them. This tool will help you plan your timetable this year and during the rest of your time at uOttawa.

Electives without prerequisites

Electives are courses you can choose to take, from among all courses offered by the University. The Electives without prerequisites tool provides a list of elective courses that you can register for without having taken any prior university courses. These electives provide an opportunity for you to explore different areas of interest. For example, if you are an arts students and are interested in taking a science course, you can choose a science elective from this list of courses.

FRA1705 Perfectionnement du français

FRA1705 presents different guided exercises that cover the most common spelling, grammar, syntax and vocabulary issues. This three-credit elective, offered for 90 minutes a week from September to April, is intended for first-year students enrolled in a program of study in French.

Courses – Places available
When you register, you have access to courses based on criteria such as your program of studies, your discipline and your year of studies. The new Courses – Places available tool recognizes the criteria specific to you. The tool allows you to view the number of spots available in a course for someone with your profile at any given time as well as the total number of spots available in that course. The Courses – Places available tool is available through uoZone.

Confirmation of registration
The Confirmation of registration tool is used to verify the accuracy of both your personal data (name, date of birth and other personal details) and your academic data, such as the program you are registered in, the session (fall or winter), your classification (part time or full time), the courses you are registered in and the registration confirmation numbers. The Confirmation of registration tool is available through uoZone.

Manage my notices of free space
This year, we have added a Free-space notification service to Rabaska, which allows you to get a notice if a space frees up in a class that is currently full. When you try to register for a course that has no free spaces, you will be given the option of signing up for an email alert service to have an email sent to your @uOttawa.ca address if a spot becomes available.

Registering for this notification service does not guarantee you a space in the course. If you receive this notice, go to Rabaska right away to register online for the course. Available spots are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Manage my notices of free space tool in uoZone allows you to check the status of courses you’d like to register in but that are currently full. This tool allows you to view the courses you have added to the email alert service and to remove courses from the alert service.
