Thierry Giordano - Interim Dean, Faculty of Science

Thierry Giordano was appointed Interim Dean of the Faculty of Science on July 1, 2012.

Biography:

Thierry Giordano joined the Faculty of Science at the University of Ottawa in 1991 as associate professor. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1981 from the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. He held postdoctoral fellowships at Queen's University, Kingston, at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, Berkeley. He has been Secretary of the Faculty of Science since the Fall 2006, and Vice-Dean, governance and Secretary since then. After having received the Prize of the professor of the year at the Faculty of Science in 2002-03, he received the Excellence in Education Prize of the University in 2005-06.

Dr. Giordano's research is in mathematical analysis, and more precisely focuses on the links between the theory of dynamical systems and those of operator algebras. More recently, he has particularly studied the notion of orbit equivalence both in the topological and in the measurable setting. He is one of the members of the Analysis group of the department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University, and of the Canadian school in Operator Algebras.
