Michel Laurier - Dean, Faculty of Education

Michel Laurier was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Education on July 1, 2012.

Biography: 

Michel Laurier is the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. He holds a Ph.D in Curriculum from the University of Toronto and works in the field of Measurement and Evaluation particularly in the assessment of language competence and the development of computerized tests.

He published several articles on these issues and wrote the last edition of the book Principes de la mesure et de l'évaluation des apprentissages. He worked on the development of official policies in relation with learning assessment and the construction of competency scales namely for adult immigrants learning French.  He supervised the development of various measurement tools in first and second language.  He also studies the evolution of programmes for teaching Heritage languages.

He is currently a member of a research team that works on the uses of information and communication technologies for learning assessment and another team focusing on second language competence of health practitioners who work with minority groups.
