uOttawa is proud to help promote Canadian music and musicians, and to build, along with the JUNOS, tomorrow’s music audience.

University of Ottawa: official programming partner of the host committee for the 2012 JUNO Awards

Canada’s capital will be hosting the JUNO Awards April 1. But the JUNOS are more than just a gala evening. There will be a slew of events throughout the month before the prestigious awards ceremony.  Many of these events will take place at the University of Ottawa.  For example, the University’s Arts Administration program and Centre for Mediated Teaching and Learning (CMTL) have organized three master classes to be given by School of Music professors, in collaboration with musicians from across the country and MASC. These master classes in piano, guitar and clarinet will be broadcast by videoconference to universities, high schools and colleges, as well as to other music aficionados and private music teachers from coast to coast.

Stéphane Lemelin (see photo), professor and director of the School of Music of the University of Ottawa and former JUNO nominee, was the first master to share his knowledge, as part of a one-on-one piano class Tuesday, February 28, 2012.  The next two master classes will take place on March 2nd and 23rd,  2012. Thanks to the CMTL’s videoconferencing services, it will be possible to take part in these master classes at a distance. Viewers will be able to learn from the master at the same time as the selected students. There will be a question and answer period.

“The University of Ottawa is proud to help promote Canadian music and musicians, and to train, along with the JUNOS, tomorrow’s music talent and audiences,” says Professor Chantal Rodier, coordinator of the Arts Administration program and 2012 Education Chair for the 2012 JUNO Awards Host Committee.

There are two ways to take part in the master classes:

By accessing the videoconferences on the CMTL webcast page, and enjoying the live lessons.

By asking the masters questions. To do this, contact the CMTL at 613-562-5282 or distance@uOttawa.ca.

To find out about other JUNO educational activities, see the JUNO Awards and JUNO Week Events Guide, on the JUNO Awards website.
