Promoting women’s health

In early June, the University of Ottawa and the Faculty of Health Sciences proudly announced the appointment of internationally renowned researcher Dr. Angel Foster as the Echo Chair in Women's Health Research. In her research, Professor Foster looks forward to building on her body of work on reproductive health in the Middle East and North Africa.

With her multidisciplinary team, she will focus on the different needs and realities of women with respect to health, most notably mental health and addictions, chronic disease, as well as sexual and reproductive health.

Located at the Institute of Population Health, the Echo Chair in Women's Health Research aims to advance policy-relevant research, knowledge, mentorship and service in women's health and population health.

A 1996 Rhodes Scholar, Professor Foster holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree (DPhil) in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Oxford and a Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from Harvard Medical School. She also holds both a Master of Arts (AM) in international policy studies and a Bachelor of Arts and Science (BAS) in international relations and biology from Stanford University.
