Denis Prud'homme - Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences
Denis Prud’homme was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences July 1, 2002.
Biography:
Denis Prud’homme is an associate professor and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in human kinetics in 1980, a master’s degree in exercise physiology in 1982, and a medical degree in 1986, all at Université Laval. He completed his MD licence in general practice at the Hôtel-Dieu hospital of Lévis in 1988. From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Prud’homme was an associate professor at Université Laval, first in the Human Kinetics department of the Faculty of Education Sciences, and then in the Kinesiology Division of the Social and Preventive Medicine department at the Faculty of Medicine. He was also an active clinician at the Sports Medicine Clinic and the Physical Activity Science Laboratory at Université Laval.
As a clinician and researcher, Dr. Prud’homme is actively involved in clinical research related to the effects of physical activity in patients with health problems such as obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. He is presently conducting clinical research on the effects of exercise in the treatment of patients with excess body weight, diabetes (type 1 and 2), coronary heart disease and cancer. Professor Prud’homme is often called on to share his expertise in the areas of his research interests, particularly on the role of physical activity in preventive medicine.
