Cyber-Start Series: Introduction to Computing Services for Students
Introduction
Students at the University of Ottawa enjoy a variety of resources to support them in their academic endeavours. Check with your department and faculty to see what computing resources they have available. Additionally, Computing and Communications Servi ces (CCS) operates a range of central facilities and services.
InfoWeb is the University’s central gateway to many secured services.
Accessing the Internet
You can access the Internet from the public student lab, department or faculty labs, at wireless areas on campus or from your home.

Accounts

For new students, computing accounts (mailbox, InfoWeb, Montpetit Lab and library accounts) are created in advance. There is no need to stay in line to get your account created. Find out what accounts have been created for you:
- go to InfoWeb
- choose Services, Computer and E-mail accounts
Other accounts must be requested in person at the Computing Lab, at InfoService or by calling the Computing Help Centre(CHC).
Changing Your InfoWeb Password
- go to InfoWeb
- Otherwise, you can call the CHC, go to the Computing Lab or fill out the on-line help form.
Public Student Lab
Montpetit Hall, room 140.
This lab has 100 PCs, 3 laser printers (one is colour) and a Service Desk.

Morisset Library.
It has 50 PCs, several printers and a Service Desk.

Software

Printing
Laser printing (text, PCL, and PostScript) is available through a pay-per-use system. Payment is made through the use of photocopy cards which are obtained from library locations. The charge for printing is currently $0.09 per page for black and white
and $0.25 per page for colour. Select the colour printer from within your application. See www.ccs.uottawa.ca/students/printing/
InfoKiosks

Student Card
Don’t forget to carry your student card with you in case you require a new account or password from the Computing Advisors at the Service Desk or are asked by the Protection Services to identify yourself.
