Research
The ISSP’s research agenda is currently in development. However, the Institute has engaged in the following research projects for the Government of Canada.
Innovation and Regulation
The ISSP has produced a background paper on innovation and regulation for the Red Tape Reduction Commission. The paper outlined the relationship between innovation and compliance burdens and investigated how well federal innovation and regulation policies are aligned, identifying tensions in the areas of communication, policy direction and performance management.
Nanotechnology Regulation
Health Canada has recently carried out consultations on the Interim Policy Statement on Health Canada's Working Definition for Nanomaterials, to determine whether there is a need for changes or amendments to the Interim Policy and to plan the path forward. The ISSP has provided a Report of the consultation results, a Background Paper of comparative analysis of international definitions of Nanomaterials, and developed options on future directions for consideration by Health Canada.
The ISSP is also actively researching issues in science-policy integration as well as mapping the international science, technology and innovation studies and science and technology studies landscape.
