The University of Ottawa’s Department of Surgery includes 90 faculty members among our seven divisions: cardiac surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, thoracic surgery, urology and vascular surgery. We are affiliated with , The Ottawa Hospital the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Montfort Hospital.
Our collective mission is to provide excellent patient care, pursue cutting edge research, and educate future high-calibre surgeons through our undergraduate surgical training and postgraduate training.
Special features
As a Department of the University of Ottawa we offer surgical training in French to our Francophone students.
Qualified residents may also take advantage of our Surgeon-Scientist Program.
Another feature of our Department is our Surgical Oncology Program. Through our affiliation with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Clinic our oncological surgeons provide treatment to patients and conduct much-needed research. Such work also provides opportunities for residents and fellows who wish to pursue training and research in the area of surgical oncology.
