A word from the Chair

Lynne Bowker

Welcome to the University of Ottawa’s School of Information Studies (ÉSIS)!

You are joining us at an exciting time! The blossoming of our knowledge society has created an exponential need for information specialists.

More than ever, we need to understand the role of information at the individual, social, and organizational level, and we need professionals who can investigate and manage the related processes, systems and services to ensure adequate access to information and knowledge. Likewise, we need scholars who are interested in exploring the elements of information – how we use, perceive, classify and manage information.

Whether your interest is in data curation or in information policy development, in web design or in management of information services, in social media or in access to information, ÉSIS will provide you with a variety of courses to meet your needs, as well as opportunities to develop a research agenda and to put your knowledge into practice – all in a bilingual environment.

At ÉSIS, we offer a positive experience in a program of the highest quality and integrity. We encourage you to connect with professors in our department to find out more about our program. Join the information revolution today by enrolling in the School of Information Studies at uOttawa. We look forward to meeting you!
