Overview
The University of Ottawa has a bicameral governance structure, that is, two representative assemblies. One is the Senate and the other, the Board of Governors. Each body has a specific jurisdiction, and for issues involving both assemblies, the University calls on the Joint Committee of the Board and Senate
Bicameralism is used by most of Canada's universities because it not only recognizes the need for sound administrative practices, but also defers to the judgement of the proper authorities in academic matters per se.
