Doctoral program

Interdisciplinary program: collaborative PhD in Canadian studies

The Department of Linguistics plays an active role in the collaborative PhD program in Canadian Studies. The program offers students the opportunity to enrich their education in linguistics by including an interdisciplinary component in Canadian studies; in the end, students graduate with both a PhD in linguistics and a specialization in Canadian Studies.

One advantage for linguistics students in the program is the opportunity to take CDN 6910, an interdisciplinary seminar that fits into departmental course requirements and does not add to the number of required courses for the PhD in Linguistics.

To be admitted to the collaborative Canadian Studies program, students must first be admitted to the PhD in linguistics and be registered in at least one graduate course in linguistics with Canadian content.
