The Creighton Douglas Scholarship
Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario Foundation (FondATIO)
The Creighton Douglas Scholarship was established in tribute to the memory of Creighton
Douglas. Creighton was a long-time member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters
of Ontario (ATIO) and also served on the Association’s Board of Directors as Treasurer. For
many years he also performed the important task of chairing the Board of Examiners of the
national body, the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC).
The Creighton Douglas Scholarship will be awarded each year to a full-time or part-time
student in translation, interpretation or terminology at the University of Ottawa.
The scholarship will be awarded in the fall, usually in connection with the events celebrating
World Translation Day.
Value
The value will be a minimum of $1,000. The amount may be increased over time as the Fund
grows.
Eligibility
Recipients must be enrolled full time or part time in the third or fourth year of a B.A. program,
or a master’s or doctoral program, in translation, interpretation or terminology at the
University of Ottawa. Canadian citizens, landed immigrants and foreign students are eligible for
the scholarship.
Criteria
The recipient will be chosen on the basis of the following criteria:
- Academic record (theoretical and practical courses).
- Supporting documentation, including the curriculum vitae, and testimonials from professors, employers or supervisors, clients, etc.
- Financial need.
Application
Those interested in applying have until 31 August each year to complete an application form
and submit it to the University of Ottawa School of Translation and Interpretation. The
application should include a brief curriculum vitae, the most recent official transcript and
various items of supporting documentation, including the curriculum vitae, and testimonials
from professors, employers or supervisors, clients, etc.
