The Writing Centre in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa is located in the second basement level of Simard Hall (SMD 0021). It provides computer and writing services to students enrolled in a course offered by either the English Department, the Department of Français or the School of Translation and Interpretation. During the winter sessions, these services are also available upon request for students who need access to word processing facilities.
The Writing Centre is equipped with 35 computer stations and a classroom with an additional 30 computers. Professors wishing to reserve the classroom are advised to book the room in advance by phone or by e-mail. Priority is given to professors teaching in the English Department, the Department of Français or the School of Translation and Interpretation, but we try to accommodate everybody.
During the fall and winter terms, graduate assistants from the Department of English are on hand to assist students with everything from style to grammar and the structure of their writing assignments. In addition, computerized dictionaries and databases complement the Centre's small library of print material. Internet access is restricted to academic learning activities only.
