DB2 Connect Personal Edition V8.2 Installation Guide

The installation of DB2 Connect Personal Edition consists of:
  1. Installation of IBM's DB2 Connect Personal Edition Version 8.2
  2. Testing your connection
  3. Registration
System requirements:
    Windows 2000  or
    Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit) 

    Administrator rights

    360MB of available hard disk space for the DEVELOPER version

    NB:  For Windows versions other than 2000 or XP ,
            a manual install is required.

Prerequisites:

  1. K:\LOCUTUS\SYS drive mapped on your computer 

Installation of DB2 Connect Personal Edition V8.2

  1. Open MY COMPUTER
    • Select the following drive K:\LOCUTUS\SYS
    • Select the following folder Software
  2. From K:\LOCUTUS\Software
    • Select the following folder DB2V82
  3. From K:\SOFTWARE\DB2V82
    • Select the following executable db2v82.exe
  4. The installation process will begin.
    • The installation will take approximately 15 minutes.
    • The Install shield wizard will guide you through the installation process.
    • You will have to choose between 2 versions of the installation: Click on
      • DEVELOPER if you intend to communicate with the database server (DB2D, DB2Q, DB2T, DB2P, DB2W) and develop applications. This option will install all the components of DB2 Connect including tools like the Command Center, the Development Center, the Control Center, etc.
      • TYPICAL if you intend to use DB2 Connect only to communicate with the database server (DB2D, DB2Q, DB2T, DB2P, DB2W). This option will not install any GUI  tools. It will only install the Command Line Processor tool.
    • Once you receive the message: "The installation of Db2 Connect Personal edition V8.2 was successful. You must restart your system for the settings to take effect." Restart your PC.
  5. Since this is a self install, all DB2 database entries (Data Sources) will be defined. All you have to do is test your connections and e-mail your registration.


Testing the Connection


The last step is to run a series of tests that will ensure the installation completed normally and that it was configured properly.
 

  1. Testing a connection
    • From Start/Programs select IBM DB2 then select Command line Tools then Command Line Processor.
    • Enter the following where DB2* is the SQL server you want to connect to and userID is your userID for CICS/ZOS on the mainframe.
    • Connect to DB2* user userID and press Enter. Then type your password and press Enter.
    • The connection is established if you receive this message:
      •    Database Connection Information

         Database server = DB2 OS/390 8.1.5
         SQL authorization ID = USERID
         Local database alias = DB2P

  2. Test the connection using an application such as Word, Excel, Access, Esperant or Powerbuilder.
