Development of Interdisciplinary Initiatives
In August 2003, the University of Ottawa announced the establishment of a development fund for interdisciplinary programs and projects. The objective of the fund is to allow the initial and selective funding of interdisciplinary initiatives. Proposals will be evaluated on a competitive basis, once a year, with a deadline date of October 1st. University’s contribution can reach up to $10,000 per project.
The range of activities recognized for funding is quite broad. Some of the activities include: developing interdisciplinary courses and programs, establishing partnerships with the private or public sectors to create interdisciplinary activities or structures that promote the University's community outreach and the development of its institutional priorities, training faculty in interdisciplinary teaching, designing graduate workshops on interdisciplinary themes, inviting experts on interdisciplinarity as consultants for projects, etc. However, research projects are not admissible.
The proposals will be evaluated on a competitive basis, once a year, with October 1 being the deadline this year. Eligible projects will be assessed by a committee chaired by the Vice-President Academic and Provost. Priority will be given to team projects, involving members from different disciplines and faculties, and initiatives whose originality, strategic importance and impact on the University is clearly demonstrated. As a rule: a) the contribution of the University to a project will not exceed $10,000, amount that can be used over more than one year; b) only regular faculty members are eligible.
Proposals must be sent to the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost, original plus six copies, and must include:
- a brief description of the project (maximum of four pages);
- an abridged curriculum vitae of all project proponents;
- recommendations from the Chair of the Department or School and from the Dean;
- a precise and justified budget.
