Technical Problems: Message to Students
March 10, 2009 - CCS has recently discovered two flaws in the e-mail delivery system. These flaws only affected people using Message to Students web function which sends e-mail to staff and students. The first flaw was discovered on March 1 and would manifest itself only when the mainframe e-mail queues exceeded a threshold of roughly 24,000 messages. The second flaw, discovered earlier this week, would manifest itself when the body of an e-mail message contained invalid characters. No sent e-mail was lost, however, during the troubleshooting stage some e-mails were inadvertently sent multiple times and some delays occurred.
CCS has developed a manual workaround which fix both flaws. We will continue to apply our workaround until either a permanent solution is provided by IBM or we implement the workaround into production next week.
