CIO Message

During the past year as the University’s Chief Information Officer, Computing and Communications Services has seen significant changes. The changes that we have been undertaking as a team have been important in reaching our goals of being a more strategic, innovative and business-centered group focused on our partner relationships.

In order to better serve our partners – the students, professors, researchers and staff of the University – we reorganized our services to be better aligned with the University’s objectives. We are still managing this change to ensure that we carefully balance core competencies in technology, management and project management. This process has been assisted through the expertise of various deans and directors on campus, and I believe we are starting to see fundamental changes in the way we operate.

The past year has also seen some very exciting changes to Information Technology on campus. The Fusion/ERP Finance and Human Resources/Pay system are now enabled, and will be instrumental in not only improving our human resources and finance systems, but in delivering high-quality administrative services to staff on campus. The $2.9-million wireless network venture has also been progressing rapidly. We are expanding the concept of an anytime, anywhere wireless connection on campus into a powerful reality.

As this is only the beginning of our renewed focus, the changes that lie ahead prove to be even more exciting and innovative to the way we function on campus. There is still a great deal of work we need to undertake to better serve our partners, and we hope that you will be engaged in the process. As your partner, we are striving to be client-focused, trusted advisors, proactive, knowledgeable and flexible. Going forward, I hope you partner with us for technological leadership and innovation.
