Emergency Management at uOttawa

The Emergency Management Program (EMP ), which comes under Protection Services, works at designing and maintaining updated response plans to optimize the safety of the campus community in case of a major emergency. The EMP is guided by the following emergency management principles:

  • Prevention & Mitigation
  • Preparedness
  • Response
  • Recovery

All plans are based on the latest risk analyses, best practices and research, and all comply with rigorous standards. Together, they make up the overall uOttawa Emergency Plan, which goes into action when the University needs to respond to a major emergency.

What is considered a major emergency?

The EMP prepares response plans for major emergencies like the following, among others:

  • Violent aggressor (lockdown)
  • Earthquake
  • Severe weather
  • Explosion
  • Major fire
