Skating rink
Published by Allan Rock on Friday January 29th, 2010 – 05:41 PM -Allan Rock speaks with two individuals hurrying to prepare the ice rink in front of Tabaret Hall.
You may have seen or heard the bulldozers hard at work on the front lawn of Tabaret recently: they have been clearing away the snow so that we could install a skating rink! What better way to use this great space during the winter months? As luck would have it, milder weather arrived just as the work began. We can be sure about one thing — our Canadian winters. The deep cold did not wait long to return, and thanks to this deep freeze, the rink is now ready for use. We might even work on a hockey rink next year if we can find a private sponsor to cover the cost.

I think is a great idea to encourage winter activities and what not, but I just think that building a skating rink 2minutes away from the longest skating canal is just a waste of resources. All the machinery, manwork and maintenance of this skating rink could be use towards other activities instead. I mean, the canal is maintained by the city and goes right by our campus we might as well just take advantage of that–just a thought.

In response to Andres:
Well, the canal was closed last night, for safety reasons; if I had known earlier,I would’ve enjoyed having an outdoor skating rink near by! Plus I think it’s an awesome idea for those who just want to stop by for a few minutes between classes… I think that was a wonderful idea.

I kind of agree with andres, why did we need to spend more school money on this? Is the university not running a 31 million deficit for next year? Why do we then need to spend the extra money on an outdoor rink when we are next to the canal?
