PIANIST DAVID KOREVAAR PERFORMS DURING INTERNATIONAL PIANO FESTIVAL
Boulder, Colorado-based pianist David Korevaar performed before a packed house at the Tajik Conservatory on May 15. Korevaar’s performance was part of the International Piano Festival, which featured pianists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and the United States.

U.S. EMBASSY HOSTS DAY OF FUN AND GAMES FOR MORE THAN 140 ORPHANS
More than 140 children from the Tursun-Zade Orphanage visited the U.S. Embassy for a full day of fun on May 10. Nearly 30 volunteers, including alumni of the Future Leaders Exchange Program and U.S. Embassy staff, donated their time to the event, which was organized by the U.S. Embassy’s Marine Security Guard Detachment.

UNITED STATES AND TAJIKISTAN CONTINUE COOPERATION IN SECURITY AND RULE OF LAW
On May 5, 2009 U.S. Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson and Tajik Minister of Foreign Affairs Hamrokhon Zarifi signed an amendment to the Letter of Agreement between the governments of Tajikistan and the United States to provide additional $9,426,000 to enhance Tajikistan’s security, law enforcement and rule of law structures.

OPENING CEREMONY OF DUSHANBE'S NEW SYNAGOGUE
On May 4 Ambassador Jacobson participated in the opening ceremony of Dushanbe’s new synagogue. Members of the New York and Israel-based Bukharan Jewish communities joined Tajikistan’s Jewish community for the event. Ambassador Jacobson said she hoped the new synagogue would serve as a cultural center and resource for Tajiks of all faiths.
