On January 20, Embassy Luanda, in conjunction with the Angolan Government’s Center for Journalism Training (CEFORJOR), organized a viewing event for the Inauguration of the 44^th President of United States, Barack Hussein Obama.  Over 250 hundreds Angolan members of the government, political parties leaders, politicians, members of the Judiciary,  members of the civil society, church leaders, academics, students, businessmen, journalists and think-tank leaders joined Ambassador Mozena and Embassy officials and the standing room only crowd at CEFOJOR’s auditorium to watch the US presidential inauguration. The event highlighted the peaceful transition of power from one administration to the next, and celebrated this historic event  with the Angolan public.   In his speech, Ambassador Dan Mozena  noted that on inauguration day, "Americans celebrate as a people, regardless of political affiliation, the peaceful transition of power, the launch of a new presidency, and the beginning of a new stage of our American journey." The United States Embassy in Luanda wishes to thank the National Election Commission for the invitation to observe Angola’s 2008 legislative elections.  Resident in Angola, members of the U.S. Embassy observed the electoral campaign in Luanda and in many of the nation’s provinces.  On Election Day, the U.S. Embassy fielded 37 observers in Benguela, Bie, Huambo, Luanda and Uige Provinces.

The United States Embassy congratulates the people of Angola, who took seriously their role in the democratic process of choosing their representatives to the National Assembly.
