Pete Kelly
Physical Sciences Officer
Pete recently joined STAS after 2 years as a AAAS Diplomacy Fellow in STC. When he was involved with STC he managed S&T cooperation with countries in North America with an interest in environmental issues. Prior to this fellowship, he was engaged in academic research in plant physiology, particularly the response and adaptation of plants to environmental stress, ion channels, and photosynthesis. Before graduate school, he was a technician at NIH working on neurological disorders. He also served for six years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy with a specialty in the operation of nuclear propulsion plants. Pete received a B.S. in Chemistry from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1980 and a PhD in Biology from the University of California, San Diego in 1996. Most recently he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
