Research Governance
The University of Ottawa has embraced a modern governance model which ensures that the administrative structure and resources devoted to research will enable us to reach our goals. This model is highlighted by the role of personnel at the Office of the Vice-President, Research, along with members of the Research Advisory Council who work together to enable members of the larger community to play an active role in decisions affecting the University's research activities.
This model also includes the complementary posts of Associate Vice-President, Research, and Associate Vice-President, Research (External), each dedicated to creating a rich and diverse research environment on campus. In addition to looking at externally oriented matters such as International Research, Technology Transfer and Business Enterprise, Government Research Investment Programs, and Research Communications, these offices address university-wide issues related to Research Grants and Ethics, Animal Care and Veterinary Services, Radiation/Biosafety standards, reviews of Research Centres and Institutes, and the Nominations of Prizes and Awards.
This governance model underscores the important contribution of communications in fostering a decision-making process that is as transparent and accessible as possible. This approach not only cultivates a team spirit amongst all participants, it also fuels the significant levels of interdisciplinary cooperation that are associated with today's most innovative and exciting research.
