How can we help young people to safely navigate the digital world? That's the challenge that students from School Cluster Afonso de Paiva in Portugal undertook in their entry to this year's Skills Upload Challenge. By creating a video animation, and inventing a new game, the team aimed to build digital skills and confidence amongst users. Congratulations on being named our Skills Upload Challenge winners from Portugal! 🏆 #SkillsUploadJr #SkillsUploadChallenge #VodafoneFoundation #DigitalSkills

The use of digital technologies to help communities adapt to the climate crisis was one of the topics of discussion, at a round table event we organised alongside the Skoll World Forum in Oxford. Some of the leading lights in digital technologies in international development, regarding health, education, and disaster response, were in attendance, and panelists included leaders from The Wellcome Trust, British Investment International, Visa, Accenture and CIFF. The round table highlighted the potential of data analytics, AI, and connectivity to improve resilience, as well as the importance of localisation to help aid equitable access, infrastructure gaps, and digital literacy. Solutions discussed included: ✅ Inclusive, scalable and localised design to ensure accessibility for all ✅ Innovative partnerships for infrastructure development ✅ Sustainable models for long-term impact Vodafone Foundation Director, Lisa Felton , said: "The event reaffirmed a need for urgent action to leverage technology in building a more resilient, sustainable future for vulnerable communities. The discussions will form part of an important piece of research we look forward to publishing later this year." Thank you to all of those who attended, including: Alan Robbins, Leslie Maasdorp, Florentin (Flo) Albu, Alasdair Maclay, Mary Woodgate, Madhuvanti (Madhu) Deshmukh, Ricardo Baptista Leite, M.D., Yolande Wright, Louise Holden, Pradeep Kakkattil, Cecilia Mundaca Shah, MD, DrPH #SkollGather #ClimateAction #DigitalInnovation #TechForImpact #Sustainability #ClimateEmergency #Health #Education #DisasterResponse

"I was told I had to be induced urgently to avoid losing the twins...I was extremely sad and praying to God for help." Unfortunately, when Agness Daudi went into labour her local dispensary had no capacity for induction. Thanks to the emergency transport service provided by m-mama however, Agness was driven to the regional hospital where she successfully delivered her twins via an emergency caesarean. As the photos below show, the boys are now happy and healthy, and enjoying school. 📚The twins were some of the first babies to benefit from m-mama when it launched in Tanzania. ❤️ #mmama #vodafonefoundation

"This man was amazing! He went to school and university in DRC, he was an English and French speaker and spoke, I don't know how many foreign languages. He was a refugee from Congo in Tanzania in the 90s and is now nearly 70 years old. He translated the launch of our Life Skills course into English, French and Swahili flawlessly." Iona is one of our brilliant Instant Network Schools (INS) volunteers who are currently on the ground in Tanzania, working with teachers and local experts to introduce our new life skills courses at INS schools. 🎓📱 Through our INS programme with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, we are aiming to bring a quality digital education to 500,000 refugee students, and connect with 8,000 teachers, by the end of 2026. #InstantNetworkSchools #VodafoneFoundation #UNHCR #DigitalEducation #ConnectingForGood #DigitalSkills

Technology is at the core of our Instant Network Schools (INS) programme with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, allowing us to transform a traditional classroom into an innovative multimedia hub. 📱Each instant classroom kit contains 25 tablets - all of which have the curriculum pre-loaded - a laptop for the teacher, a projector and a speaker. Plus, it's all powered through solar panels! ☀️ 📷 Vodafone Foundation volunteers, Iona, Rob Ash and Phil Helliwell, are currently supporting the INS team in Tanzania, updating tablets and laptops, meeting and training coaches, teachers and students, and observing live classrooms. Through INS, we are connecting refugee students and their host communities to a quality education. #UNHCR #VodafoneFoundation #InstantNetworkSchools #ConnectingForGood #RefugeeEducation
