Latest study quantitatively analyzed size and shape distortion in different ultra-widefield (#UWF) imaging systems. Retinal size distortion was positively correlated with eccentricity and negatively correlated with axial length across all devices, though the degree varied. Mirante showed the least size distortion, while Daytona was the only system with shape distortion. Understanding these findings can provide a reference for correcting distortion in UWF imaging and improve accuracy in retinal assessments. #Retina #Imaging #Vision #Ophthalmology #Fundus

New study introduces Contact Lens Sun Protection Factor (CL-SPF) as a metric for #UV protection in contact lenses: https://bit.ly/3E50bHy Testing of 15 lenses revealed three categories: no UV blocker (CL-SPF 1-2), Class 2 UV blocker (SPF 12-25, like SPF15 sunscreen), and Class 1 UV blocker (SPF 60+, like SPF50+ sunscreen). While sunglasses block 76%-89% of UV light, their protection varies with solar angle and head position. Additionally, conjunctival cells are more vulnerable to UV damage than corneal cells. CL-SPF could help consumers understand UV protection in contact lenses, though coverage is limited to the cornea and internal eye tissues.

New study evaluated the impact of lymphatic and corneal neovascularization (CoNV) on corneal graft survival. Among 17 patients undergoing penetrating keratoplasty (#PK), those with lymphatic CoNV had a significantly higher risk of graft failure (60% vs. 0%) compared to those with only CoNV. Lymphatic vessels regressed within one year, indicating that early-stage CoNV or ICG dye leakage signals high transplant failure risk. Timing surgery after lymphatic regression may improve outcomes: https://bit.ly/4jidTpj #Cornea #Ophthalmology #Transplant #Vision #Eyehealth

Latest study on #keratoconus patients post-cross linking found that high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HMW-HA) eye drops enhanced corneal nerve regrowth, corneal sensitivity, and ocular surface health more than low molecular weight HA or standard drops. Could HMW-HA eye drops boost corneal nerve regeneration after CXL? Read here: https://bit.ly/4iXapc4 #Keratoconus #Cornea #Ophthalmology #Optometry #Eyecare

Lipid-lowering treatment has been regarded as a potential strategy to halt advancement of #diabetic retinopathy. In the latest study, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (#PPARG) showed that activation lowers risk of background DR (OR=0.12) & PDR (OR=0.25)—likely via glucose control. There was no significant causal relationship between lipid traits and risk of full-course DR: https://bit.ly/43OWBeS #Diabetes #Ophthalmology #Retinopathy #Retina #Vision

New study examining #optic nerves and #glaucoma of 481 eyes found a strong correlation (R=0.953) between optic nerve perfusion (Hb density) & Bruch’s membrane thickness using #OCT & Laguna ONhE. Could perfusion-based metrics aid in earlier diagnosis of glaucoma? https://bit.ly/4iUbS2j #Vision #Optometry #Ophthalmology #AI #NeuroOphthalmology

Newest #ROP study of 108 preterm infants found that weight gain at 2 weeks was the strongest postnatal predictor of milder, reversible #retinopathy of prematurity (AUC=0.80), but risk factors of gestational age (GA) & small for gestational age (SGA) remained the best predictors: https://bit.ly/4hfPEqy! 👶 📊 #Pediatrics #PediatricOphthalmology #Ophthalmology #Vision

Latest #BMJ study on 131 eyes with neovascular #AMD found that taurodeoxycholate (TDCA), a bile acid, was significantly associated with better treatment response after three anti-VEGF injections. What is the role of bile acid biomarkers in nAMD, and could it play a neuroprotective role in nAMD? Read here: https://bit.ly/4hgVZ4Z #Retina #Ophthalmology #MacularDegeneration #Vision

Latest study of 104 eyes with #POAG & PACG found that direct-SLT (DSLT) significantly lowered IOP & reduced medication burden at 1-year follow-up, with no major complications. This device is able to directly target the trabecular meshwork without using gonioscopic lens: https://bit.ly/3XUW5bw Could this mark a shift in #glaucoma treatment? #Ophthalmology #LaserTherapy #optometry #vision
