Job Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic Radiographers to join our dynamic and friendly team on a two year fixed basis and play a key role in maintaining and improving standards and quality of our patient services. The post includes training and rotation through all areas of the General X-ray department, including Endoscopy.

Successful candidates will

  • Receive a comprehensive induction and training
  • Receive a one year preceptorship
  • Receive regular appraisals
  • Participate in a 24/7 shift system
  • Receive enhanced remuneration for night duties

Main duties of the job

  • Take responsibility for the welfare and comfort of the patient whilst under the care of the radiology department, prior, during and post their examination
  • Ensure IR(ME)R procedures are followed
  • Make decisions about the most appropriate examination required
  • Physically position the full range of patient presentations with accuracy
  • Employ appropriate exposure factors and technique, ensuring dose is kept to a minimum
  • Review images and make assessment as to whether additional imaging is required
  • Inform patient when the examination is complete and ensure they are aware of where they need to go or where/when they will obtain their results
  • Take part in the department “red dot” system
  • Ensure full patient and examination data is entered onto the patient management system
  • Working without supervision, participate in the out of hour’s duty rosters to maintain a 24 hour service to the central site
  • Maintain commitment to CPD, keeping up to date with the latest developments, as required for Clinical Governance. Ensure CPD portfolio is kept up to date
  • Participate in the training, supervision and assessment of student radiographers
  • Ensure all mandatory training requirements are kept up to date
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives
  • Prioritising and organisation of departmental workload
  • Be aware of IPC procedures
  • Report any equipment faults or hazards immediately to a Senior Radiographers.

Essential criteria

  • BSc (Radiography) or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Range of clinical experience undergraduate level in all areas relevant to first post competency
  • Comprehend and work within both IR(ME)R 2017 and local protocols
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Desirable criteria

  • General experience in a Radiographer post

Physical and mental requirements

  • Ability to concentrate on high standard of image quality and respond to changes in workflow, unpredictable work patterns
