Job Purpose:

The Student Data Manager will be responsible for the effective management and administration of the college's student data platforms, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with relevant regulations and policies. This role will lead on the development and implementation of data reporting strategies, contribute to quality assurance audits, and support the compliance team in maintaining institutional and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:


Student Data Platform Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day administration and maintenance of the student data platform
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across the platform.
  • Develop and implement best practices for data collection, storage, and retrieval.
  • Manage user access and permissions, providing training and support as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, liaising with IT support and external vendors as necessary.
  • Lead on system upgrades and implementations, ensuring minimal disruption to services.


Data Reporting and Analysis:

  • Lead on the production and analysis of student data reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analyse student data to identify trends, patterns, and insights, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure data reporting complies with internal and external reporting requirements (e.g., HESA, OfS).


Policy Development and Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to student data management, ensuring compliance with institutional regulations, GDPR, and other data protection legislation.
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff on data management best practices.
  • Support the compliance team in monitoring and auditing data-related processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and sector best practices.


Quality Assurance:

  • Support the college’s quality assurance processes by providing data insights and analysis.
  • Contribute to internal and external quality assurance audits, providing evidence and documentation as required.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives related to student data.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative teams to ensure data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure data processes align with institutional quality standards.
  • Support student record audits.


Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with academic and administrative staff to ensure effective data management practices.
  • Communicate data-related information clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders.
  • Provide training and support to staff and other stakeholders on data management processes and systems.


Person Specification


Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience of UK HEI quality assurance, including use of student data systems
  • Strong working knowledge of IT systems including Office 365, SharePoint, and data management systems
  • Deep understanding of UK HE quality assurance processes and regulation including OfS and QAA
  • A positive and proactive attitude with a keen eye for detail.
  • Student-oriented approach
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate both qualitative and quantitative data to inform decision-making


Desirable

  • Master’s or higher level degree in a relevant field
  • Working knowledge of Tribal ebs student information system
  • Understanding of the wider UK education quality assurance landscape including Ofsted and ESFA
  • Experience of leading audit activities within a UK HEI setting.
  • Working knowledge of data reporting structures including SSRS and PowerBI.
  • A positive and proactive attitude with a keen eye for detail.
  • Have excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to produce clear policies, procedures, reports and presentations, and convey complex information with confidence.
