When expanding your business. Lean on local legal and tax experts to navigate these complexities and protect your business. Get your current advisers to speak to these new experts. This helps to ensure any cross-border tax, IP and legal requirements in the country you are expanding to are aligned with your local market. So for example, a common issue may well be Transfer Pricing and the inter-company issues that need to be assessed even before you expand. By taking a proactive approach and you'll best placed to expand successfully and stay on top of international compliance.

Define your benchmarks for success in advance. Adjust your product features and pricing strategies to align with local expectations and needs. Be prepared to pivot or pull back if the signals aren’t favourable. Continuously monitor your progress and never drop the ball on your current strengths as that it what got you to the position you are now.

Before market research, assess whether you are ready to expand. Founders can get caught up by the opportunity of growth, but from my experience, you have to be well-established or expand very early on. On market research, it's valuable to spend time on getting feet on ground. If you can local experience of what it's like actually in the market, and you spend time with people and businesses that's all useful data. This can validate your research or move it towards a more informed direction.
