With the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) increasing from today (April 1 2025), it’s the perfect time to review your packaging strategy and champion alternative materials that are regulatory compliant. Morro materials are completely plastic-free and natural. Made from plants, our materials are SUPD exempt to help future-proof your packaging from current and future regulations designed to support the transition to materials that are better for the planet.

How can we stop plastic pollution increasing in the UK? The Marine Conservation Society has recently reported that the amount of plastic rubbish found on beaches in the UK has increased in the last year. The amount of plastic litter collected on beach cleans and surveys increased by 10% in 2024 compared to 2023. Interestingly, the second most common type of rubbish found on UK beaches was single-use plastic packaging. Packaging is still a challenge for many brands looking to reduce their impact, however, new innovations can provide the solution our planet needs. Xampla's Morro materials are on a mission to eliminate the world's most polluting plastics. Together, we can make a difference to help your brand be part of the solution.

To celebrate #GlobalRecyclingDay, we're putting the spotlight on our recyclability report for Morro Coating highlighting how our plastic-free barrier coating is recycling-friendly and doesn't disrupt standard recycling processes. Using the 4evergreen alliance Recyclability Evaluation protocol, tested by DS Smith, we're proud to say our Morro Coating passed with flying colours - including a 'best in class' for repulpability! This means boxes with Morro Coating can go on to have a new lease of life.

Traditional barrier coatings use plastic or PFAS to protect paper packaging from oil, grease, and food, but these synthetic materials are harmful to our environment. Sometimes this packaging can last just moments but with traditional barrier coatings, it's impact can last forever. Morro Coating is our natural alternative for barrier coatings. Made from plants, it is home compostable, fully biodegradable, and doesn't interfere with standard recycling processes. No matter where our materials ends up, they leave nothing harmful behind and make it easy for everyone to #ChooseThePlanet.
