Finally able to share this collaboration coming to life: U-Ploid Biotechnologies is partnering with Care Fertility — a powerhouse in fertility services. This is a major step forward in building solutions to age-related infertility that can also meet the clinical needs of all hopeful mothers undergoing IVF. And also in our early commitment towards addressing this problem, would not have been possible without scientist founders like Alexandre, Chloe and Jordan 💪

A big milestone for the Infinitopes team! They just received MHRA approval to begin their first clinical trial — a Phase I/IIa study of #ITOP1, their lead candidate for early-stage oesophageal cancer. From university research to a pivotal clinical program in just over three years! Infinitopes are using cutting-edge immunomics to build off-the-shelf cancer vaccines with precision tumor targeting, smart delivery systems, and timing that actually makes sense for patients. Congrats to Jonathan and the whole team - looking forward to what’s to come!

Cracking Q1 team! What a rush executing all investments (Anna kudos for conducting it all). The numbers are pretty indicative of our long held belief in an alternative playbook for science commercialization: - 8 investments in the last 3 months (spanning from bio to mining) - EXCLUSIVELY in companies founded AND led by scientists (Scientists First!) - All scientists became founders through our flagship program (13 classes; running since 2020, Ali is your guy to explore how this can work for you) - Teams based across UK, US, Switzerland - Only 3 of the 8 companies is based on IP developed within universities. Everyone else started from addressing a specific problem and built the science FROM SCRATCH within the company - All IP licenses we negotiated with universities are for single-digit equity (national average in UK is 25%.. as Jesse would say: "Ridiculous!")

"Your job isn't to try to sell or convince them against their will; you are trying to solve their problem. And often that takes what's called a challenger mindset." Golden nuggets on sales and customer discovery from Chris O'Neill (Board member at Gap Inc., former CEO Google Canada and COO at GoogleX, The Moonshot Factory) Full session with Chris on Sandbox, free for all scientists: wilbe.com/sandbox

4-times-in (12 months since the first), Austin TX still hits different! It's the "stay weird" yet "build here" combo that gets you. Manufacturing plants can be built 1000% faster than in California, beer at $4 vs $10 in Boston (and same ratio for the cost of a lab bench), the scale of affordable residential accommodation coming up to welcome full-to-the-brim flights from SF, the wisdom of the multi-generational industrialists from Dallas and Houston extending their interest in the science companies being built in and around the city. As per tradition, on the last day of Bootcamp13 (applications for class 14 opening soon wilbe.com/bsf) we hosted our very own *Unscripted*; this episode brought bio + venture local champions Casey McPherson and Jason Scharf to the middle of the living room (kindly offered by Haynes and Boone, LLP), and it was fire. Unscripted at Wilbe means an off-the-record, live, unapologetic conversation amongst big hearts and thinkers, free to attend for local Wilbe scientist friends and a dozen of selected new ones. I cannot kudos Anna Vildaus enough for her vision and attention in making the room feel so real every time! Unscripted moves like the circus, you know it's in town when you see a tent coming up. Or if you are a scientist and are on Sandbox: www.wilbe.com/events

“The prospect, however distant, of becoming the first company to create a cheap, abundant and non-radioactive source of energy would be particularly transformational for Europe, which suffers from high energy prices” It’s time for European deeptech founders to go big.
