  • On Saturday we had a chilly start to the pretty windy day, midway between the Brecon Beacons National Park and the South Wales Valleys. But look, not a cloud in the sky. Route flyover video and clips video to follow :)Our next social hike will start from the same location but instead of heading West we'll be heading East - https://lnkd.in/eaMizanC - Join Us!

  • I'm delighted to take 'Best Personal Guide In Wales' as the title for a five-star review from a recent client :) 'James B Best personal guide in Wales Mar 2025 • Family Andy collected us in the morning for our full day glorious adventure seeing the sights in Wales! Over 20,000 steps covered in the day. We had a delightful walk and Italian hot chocolate, then went to Three Cliffs Bay and Worms Head. Great views! Andy had a very playful journey planned for us and had a great deal of knowledge to share.' Reviews such as this mean so much more than any awards that we have clogging up the mantlepiece. These are real, personal and heartfelt and its a joy to bring happiness to travellers to Wales.

  • Last night I went to Blackwood's Art Deco Maxime Cinema to see a screening of Mr Burton, a film produced to detail the early life of the mega star that was Richard Burton, in the 100th year since his birth. I grew up with Richard Burton being a name that absolutely everyone knew, that echoed through my youth. For me, his greatest role was in the BBC production of Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood', a masterpiece of writing and performance and glittering with other names from the past, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O'Toole and Angharad Rees to name but a few. Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Tony Benn, a politician that whatever you think of his politics, stands like a giant over the rabble that we have representing us in Parliament in this era. Tony Benn was one of the few politicians that openly supported the miners during the attacks on them in 1984, which, sadly was the title of Richard Burton's last film, ‘1984’, and the year of his death. Both men had conviction, intelligence, and a fierce ability to communicate, which is absent today.

  • We had a wonderful start to the season yesterday with our ten mile six waterfalls hike being attended by six clients and two hikers from our social group. The weather was gorgeous, not usual for Wales in the early days of spring, and the group get along with each other with plenty of chat and fun. We even had three in the group, from the USA, go for a swim at Sgwd yr Eira. Pictured here is the Wales Outdoors instructor in chief, Mali, hurtling past the fence that Andy forced Natural Resources Wales to put in place to help make the waterfalls area of the Brecon Beacons National Park safer for visitors to the area. More on that in a future blog post. https://lnkd.in/eKNKFNnf

  • The partial eclipse was a little bit of a damp squib today, with cloud cover and no discernable change in the level of light reaching us from the sun. But the enticing proposition of witnessing the solar spectacle got us out and about in the hills above Pontywaun... The dogs appreciated it :)
