Exciting research opportunity by The University of Birmingham! The University of Birmingham is conducting a study led by Dr. Isabella Marinelli exploring the link between stress hormones and epileptic activity. You will be asked to wear two devices - the U-RHYTHM, a hormone collector, and an ambulatory EEG - for about a day to simultaneously measure cortisol levels and brain activity. You will be compensated £270 for your time and travel expenses and subsistence up to £150 will be covered. Who can participate? ✔️People over 18 years old with a clinical diagnosis of epilepsy ✔️Those with drug-resistant epilepsy (refractory epilepsy) ✔️Individuals reporting stress as a trigger for their seizures Who cannot participate? ❌People with known sleep disorders ❌Those on medication that could influence the study results (e.g. sleep medication, antidepressants, acting on cortisol profile) ❌Night shift workers ❌Individuals who have travelled across more than two time zones in the past 60 days. ❌Those using illicit substances or regularly consuming alcohol beyond the NHS-recommended weekly limit of 14 units. If you are interested in taking part or have any questions, please email i.marinelli@bham.ac.uk with the subject ‘IAA EPSRC Study’. #epilepsyawareness #epilepsy #epilepsystudy #epilepsystrength #epilepsycommunity #epilepsywarrior

Join us in raising awareness of epilepsy and fundraising to support families affected by epilepsy.
About us
Around 50 million people in the world are affected by epilepsy, while over 500,000 people suffer from epilepsy in the UK. Only 52% of this significant number of people diagnosed with the disorder are seizure-free. It is estimated that 70 per cent could be seizure free with the right treatment. With 87 newly diagnosed with the neurological disorder every day, our mission is to spread awareness and be an advocate for those without a voice, or those who are afraid to speak out about their experience with the disorder. Through multiple projects and fundraising events we're continuing to raise awareness and funds to support vital research for a cure. We are helping to educate our societies about seizure recognition, seizure first aid and increase understanding about epilepsy in general. We hope you will support us in our journey.
