French flair meets Irish eyewear: Vision Express Ireland welcomes work placements 🇫🇷✨🇮🇪 For the past three years, Vision Express has hosted overseas work placements for students studying a 3-year vocational diploma in optics at Victor Bérard Technical College in France 🇫🇷, offering them hands-on experience in Irish optical stores 🏬. We want to celebrate the incredible support from our Irish stores: Henry Street (Andrew Killen) 🎉, Blanchardstown (Jade Strickland) 🎉, and Liffey Valley (Phillip Beasley) 🎉. Their dedication has enriched students' optical knowledge 📚, and immersed them in Irish culture 🍀. All of the students felt so welcomed that they wished they could stay! ❤️ Their tutor in France, had this to say about the placement. "The students really enjoyed this incredible opportunity to work in another professional environment where they could put their knowledge into practice 💼. Being part of a new team was priceless, which enabled them to become more autonomous and confident over that period. They immersed themselves in the Irish culture, which was also very beneficial in building knowledge and awareness 🌍." This exchange program is a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow optics students from abroad 🌐. It’s a two-way learning experience: while they gain insights from us, we also learn from them 🤝. Over their four and a half weeks with our teams, their growth has been incredible, thanks to the dedication of our in-store colleagues 🙌. Celebrating Women’s History Month – Introducing The First Lady of Optics!   As we celebrate Women’s History Month 2025, we want to remember the trailblazing women who have shaped our industry and advanced the science of optics.   Women have faced a glass ceiling in many fields, but the glass ceiling in glasses may have been the toughest to break through. During the first half of the twentieth century, only one woman managed to overcome these obstacles and rise to the top in the field of eyewear lens design, Dr. Estelle Glancy (1883-1975).   Did you know? Dr Estelle Glancy was a pioneering optical scientist whose contributions revolutionised lens design. She patented progressive lenses in 1923, long before they became widely adopted, and developed the first lensometer, a tool still used daily in eye exams.   As one of the first women in her field, she played a crucial role in developing progressive and multifocal lenses, improving vision correction for millions worldwide.   Though largely unrecognised during her lifetime, her legacy continues to impact millions through her contributions to eyewear and vision care and reminds us that progress is built on the vision and dedication of those who push boundaries. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInVision
