I Think Thursday the Dating App Has Hit the G Spot with Integrated Brand Experience I joined an Up World webinar recently with Emma-Louise Maw from Thursday, and it got me thinking. It reminded me just how powerful a brand can be when it’s felt in real life not just seen online. I’ve always believed the best brands feel human, but Thursday made that belief hit even harder. What really stood out to me: 👉 They put real-life connection first and it shows. I loved how their brand experience starts with something tangible, something people do, not just another piece of digital content. It’s bold, social, and genuinely fun. That’s what sticks. Because honestly how could this not make you smile? This kind of energy puts joy out into the world and naturally makes people curious about the brand behind it. It’s the kind of PR moment that sparks interest, not by shouting louder, but by creating something that genuinely connects with people. (See photo below: credit Thursday) 👉 They’ve nailed what they call ‘structured spontaneity’. Such a clever concept creating space for interaction without forcing it. It’s subtle but intentional. You’re not pushing people to engage you’re giving them a reason to show up and want to take part. 👉 Fun isn’t just a tone of voice it’s a strategy. Everything they do carries that playful, cheeky, unpolished energy. And that’s what gives them cut-through. You don’t just watch you want in. 👉 They amplify the moment after it earns attention. Their strategy isn’t about making noise for the sake of it it’s about doing something worth talking about first, then amplifying it in smart, culturally aligned ways. That’s what gives it momentum and meaning. 👉 And they partner brilliantly to make the experience even bigger. Thursday has a clever way of integrating other brands into their world in a way that feels natural and engaging. From Wilkinson Sword and Charmin to Bolt, Sky, and Listerine, they’ve built brand collaborations that feel more like shared experiences than sponsorships. Emma shared one of their standout US-led campaigns with the unforgettable line: “Wipe away the shitty dating culture.” Smart, culturally sharp, and bang on message. Absolutely loved that. Big shout-out to Emma-Louise Maw for such great insight and for sharing how Thursday brings this thinking to life so brilliantly. There are many great reasons to join Up World for marketers - the community, the events, the learning opportunities and just having some peers in your role to ask questions or share success stories. One of the most fun and rewarding aspects for me has been acting as a mentor for my fellow Up World members. It gives you a chance to look in depth inside the marketing strategy of another business, help someone out, challenge yourself and give a little back. The thing they don't tell you when you join the programme is that there a lot of potential mentees from food brands, so I'll thank my recent partners in mentoring again for the free coffee and very fine cheese biscuits!
